Metrogel

Typically used to treat acne rosacea, Metrogel is a powerful antibiotic put into cream and gel form to help you to eliminate rosacea by killing off all possible bacteria. They use a 1% concentration of an ingredient called metronidazole, and they claim it will help you to also achieve healthy and glowing skin. Their other ingredients include some you might see with skin products in general including propylene glycol, niacinimide, and betadex. They also tend to give you a free bottle of Cetaphil to go along with it.

This being said, the understood way to eliminate acne rosacea is to kill off bacteria, and Metrogel certainly does that. The problem is that while Metrogel kills off bacteria, it also kills off regular skin cells. This external gel will cause redness, burning, itching, sensitivity to sunlight, easy flushing, and basically all of the things that you were trying to eliminate when you got a treatment for acne rosacea.

It’s ironic really. You buy Metrogel to get rid of acne rosacea, and you end up with side effects that look just like acne rosacea and feel just like it too. The reality is that you shouldn’t use this product if you don’t have to. It’s important to take steps early to treat and prevent any kind of acne. But this is not one that would be appropriate for most.
