Proactiv Renewing Cleanser
From Proactiv, the best known acne treatment set on the market, the Proactiv Renewing Cleanser is one of the key elements of the entire kit. It is the first step, meant to exfoliate away dead skin cells and other impurities with benzyl peroxide to attack bacteria within the pores. It is meant to be used morning and night in combination with the other 2 steps: a toner and a moisturizer. It retails for $16, but if you join their club, you can get it for $12.95. Generally, they use benzyl peroxide, because it is cheap and it works for many individuals.
However, while benzyl peroxide works for some individuals, it does not work for everyone, and it does cause redness, dryness, and other side effects for just about everyone. All the other ingredients are preservatives and fillers. Some can also cause more skin damage, such as propylene glycol, without actually having any valuable contribution to your skin’s reduction of acne or anything else.
Proactiv in general is not a good choice for many users. It has some of the most drying ingredients without any real results for some. Even those who have seen results have experienced such a burning sensation and irritation among other things at times, that they have been unable to continue with the treatment. Without the other two pieces of the kit, the Proactiv Renewing Cleanser is virtually worthless, and the whole kit gets quite a few complaints anyway. At the price they charge, there are plenty of better options now available.
Very good product. I’ve used it for about 6 months and I DO see a difference. It makes my skin dry sometimes, but nothing a little lotion can’t handle!
