Tea Treatments For Acne

May 6th, 2009

Green tea specifically has been recently sensationalized and advertised in the promotion of weight loss.  But teas in general have become popular as weight loss ingredients as well as ingredients to promote general health, improve skin, and many other things.  Now teas are being suggested specifically to treat acne as well as to have some impact on acne scars.  Acne scars affect over 12 million Americans, and it can have serious implications when it comes to self esteem among other things.  People sometimes suffer lack of self confidence, self esteem, and in extreme cases a total exit from society.

There have been thousands of different medications, injections, and other treatments that were supposed to or are supposed to help to get rid of acne scars.  Some you can use at home and find yourself, and others you have to go to a doctor to obtain.  But unfortunately, the high majority of them do not actually work.  When I say they don’t work, I don’t mean that they only make a small difference that you may not notice.  I mean that the scars are exactly the same and they have literally no impact.

Chemical creams have been known to be one of the most popular and successful treatments.  But at the same point in time, they have been known to be associated with certain side effects.  However, herbal teas are one of the fast growing herbal remedies being used in homes across America.  They do not give you the effects of harsher methods.  But they do make a significant difference, and they don’t come with the problems.  But you can’t just take any tea and assume it work.  There are a select number listed below.

  1. Green tea-the most studied tea, green tea has shown that 3% green tea’s results match those of 4% benzyl peroxide in reducing inflammation, fighting acne scars, detoxifying the skin, and lowering hormonal activities.
  2. Tea tree oil-also known as Melaleuca oil, tea tree oil, tea tree oil has been used as an alternative to benzyl peroxide without the side effects and it has been used as an alternative to salicylic acid as well.  It has also been shown to moisturize and soften the skin.
  3. Aloe vera-usually used for burns, aloe vera works to renew and heal the skin.  It can diminish scars and fight acne, and it is highly recommended for removing marks on the skin.
