They have sometimes used antibiotics to treat acne. It is beyond me why they do this and how it works in general terms. I don’t pretend to understand it in so many ways. But basically speaking, you kill off bacteria, and theoretically, this would allow you to get rid of one of the major causes of your acne. The problem is that so often, this doesn’t work. Antibiotics actually shouldn’t be taken too often anyway for fear of creating a superbug.
But at the same point in time, actually speaking, antibiotics have a low success rate in general for acne. Most people don’t see a greater success rate and they are still stuck with their same old acne. So it points to the idea that actually, the cause of acne does not lie entirely within bacteria or even largely within bacteria. It plays a relatively minor part at least in most cases. But time will tell in some ways. You can never really know. Obviously, they work for some people or they would just never prescribe them in the first place. I’m sure for rosacea, they work far better. But for regular old acne vulgaris, it just doesn’t seem to often be the case.
