Chemical Peels For Acne
December 29th, 2009Chemical peels are something I’ve never really been that attracted to in part because, chemical peels can really be botched, easily botched, and for any complexion above extremely light, it can be bleaching and damaging to say the least. Chemical peels are most commonly thought of for aging. However, more and more, younger people are using chemicals to treat everything from acne to rosacea to produce smooth skin in general.
It can yield some amazing results if you use it right, because it kills bacteria. When you burn the face and peel away a few layers of skin, you tend to kill off bacteria that may contribute to acne and cause acne rosacea. So it’s something to consider.
However, before you go running to get a chemical peel, consider all of the facts! For one thing, consider the price. You can get a cheaper chemical peel. But the damage that may be incurred if done wrong makes it worth it to pay more, hundreds more even.
But you also have to have the right expectations. Yes, you burn your skin. Yes, it is red, irritated, and not happy immediately after. But this does not mean that you will see immediate results. Accutane causes quite a few problems as well, and it can take as much as 6 months to really show results, and that’s if it shows results at all!
With a chemical peel, you should have pretty severe acne or use something else. Honestly, I think you should use something else in general. However, if you are going to use a chemical peel, it should only be for extremely severe acne. Still, skin will be red, peeling, and many other things that honestly speaking some would compare to acne in general for a while after while skin heals and repairs itself. And you should not go out into the sun without serious protection as the skin will be extremely sensitive.

The wash is meant to be combined with a 3 step formula, and frankly speaking, a 3 step process can take too long for some.
Acjuva is an extremely powerful formula. The wash in itself is definitely one to be reckoned with, and we believe that it could get rid of some acne. For optimum results of course, you should be using all 3 steps, and that can take some extra time. In addition, they do not sell the pieces individually. But if you do buy this kit, we can say it has a good chance of working.
Acne Free Severe
December 4th, 2009Acne Free Severe was first introduced in the early 2000’s as the upgrade to Acne Free. They claimed that while Acne Free was powerful enough to eliminate acne and frankly it was better than Proactiv, Acne Free Severe would take it one step up, though they still suggest it mostly for mild to moderate acne. This being said, this formula is actually better than that of Proactiv, because it has an ingredient called retinol, which basically causes the skin to shed away and replace itself at a higher rate.
The problem is that frankly, this is the only change they made. They took the exact same formula and added a little bit of retinol. Just about every prescription out there and for that matter over the counter product out there has some kind of vitamin A or retinol in it, making Acne Free Severe entirely unoriginal to say the least. It still causes all the same side effects and more because of vitamin A, and it doesn’t show really greater results as it turns out.
Now, Proactiv is exactly the same price as Acne Free. It used to be that they were about $10 cheaper. Acne Free Severe is now $10 more expensive than Proactiv, and it really doesn’t do a better job all things considered. It has one total extra ingredient, and all in all, you would be far better off not using Acne Free Severe or for that matter anything like it.

December 4th, 2009Claiming to not only be an alternative to Proactiv, but more effective than Proactiv, Acne Free has the same 3 step program which includes a scrub/wash, a toner, and a moisturizer. But this review focuses specifically on the purifying cleanser. It is supposed to purify, exfoliate away dead skin cells, remove dirt, remove oils and impurities, and leave skin fresh and clean, all with a non irritating formula and a controlled delivery system.
The only active ingredient in Acne Free is benzyl peroxide. Inactive ingredients include a myriad of water, preservatives, and irritants. In reality, it has no special technology or anything at all to separate it from Proactiv. And as many have found, while this level of benzyl peroxide will dry out, redden, peel, and irritate skin, it will not necessarily treat acne. If Proactiv didn’t work for you, you would just be wasting more money on this.
The Acne Free purifying cleanser has only one acne fighting ingredient, which has been proven to work in some cases, but without question comes with a certain cost. It doesn’t work for everybody, and sometimes the side effects are worse than the acne itself. We would not recommend this product, especially being that the field of acne treatments is always coming out with many new innovations.

Many have said that instead of making their skin dry and itchy, it simply supplemented it and actually made it really soft and smooth. With ingredients like tea tree oil, white willow bark, retinol A, vitamin E, green tea, walnut shell, oat flour, vegetable glycerin, Redmond clay, aloe vera, chaparral, gotu kola, alfalfa, jojoba, and avocado, Acnetix has the potential for something great as far as acne fighting and soothing the skin.
However, it really only has one acne fighting ingredient, tea tree oil. It has been proven to be as effective as 5% benzyl peroxide. But they do not name the actual concentration. Most of the other ingredients are soothers, which is good for the skin, but doesn’t really treat acne.

So it seems that whether it works or not, you are not really taking a risk with Acnetix. However, we have found some products that are guaranteed to work and have the same kind of guarantee.

Its main ingredient known as dapsone has been proven effective in the dose of 5% used in Aczone, and they say it can even be effective for adult acne and any area of the body in general. But, it comes without the elements in benzoyl peroxide that might bleach clothes.
But just like benzoyl peroxide, it has been associated with many of the same skin drying and damaging effects. It takes at least 2 weeks to work, which is a long time as compared to the proven over the counter option known as tea tree oil for example. But unlike tea tree oil and other over the counter options, it can also cause hemolytic anemia, lowered hemoglobin levels, sudden onset of back pain, breathlessness, tiredness, weakness, dark brown urine, high fever, and jaundice among other things.
In truth, Aczone is like quite a few other prescriptions. Salicylic acid, their only active ingredient, is extremely cheap. Other ingredients used are mostly skin soothers and preservatives, some of which can be quite damaging to the skin. It really has very little to contribute to the world of acne.
If you can only afford an acne treatment that costs about $5, Clean and Clear is the way to go. But in essence, you do get what you pay for. It has only one common ingredient with a lot of fillers, and it may actually irritate the skin. Excessive peeling is likely, and really if you can afford even $20, you can get a considerably better product with some bottles even lasting 3-4 months at a time.
